Use | trimethylsilylmethyl azide is useful as an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. |
preparation | the preparation of trimethylsilylmethyl azide is as follows: to Stirred (chloromethyl) trimethylsilane (1.0g,8.15mmol,1.0 equiv) in DMF(10ml) was added sodium azide (1.60g,24.6mmol,3.0 equiv) and KI(0.025g, catalyst). Stirring was continued for 10 min at room temperature. The temperature of the reaction mixture was then slowly increased to 60 °c and stirring was continued at 60 °c for 12 hours. After completion of the reaction (10% ethyl acetate in hexane Rf = 0.2, monitored by TLC), the mixture was poured into cold water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic extract was washed with water, then brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to give crude trimethylsilylmethyl azide (1.20g) as a colorless liquid, it was used without further purification and characterization. |
